KTVQ.com reports that the deadline to address Montana’s $227 million budget shortfall is approaching, and neither Gov. Steve Bullock nor state legislators have advanced a detailed plan on how to address it.  Bullock told MTN News through a spokeswoman Tuesday that negotiations on a possible package of spending cuts, tax increases and budget transfers remain “ongoing and fluid.”

But several Republican lawmakers said that it’s time for the governor to outline what he wants to do to balance the budget.  Conrad Republican Sen. Llew Jones, chair of the Senate Finance and Claims Committee, said it’s on the governor.  Almost two months ago, the Bullock administration outlined more than $200 million in spending cuts that he can make on his own – but those cuts go too deep, and lawmakers should meet in special session to mitigate those cuts.
