Montana State University officials have named Ron Larsen chancellor.  The associate provost at Montana State University in Bozeman met with the school’s president, not knowing what to expect at that meeting.  The longtime faculty member was asked if he would be interested in heading up the institution in Billings, two hours away.

It was an unexpected turn of events after the previous chancellor at Montana State University Billings, Mark Nook, left for the top job at the University of Northern Iowa.  Days after that announcement, Larsen was identified as the interim successor.  Now with the Montana Legislature in session and preliminary budgetary planning underway, Larsen is expected to be in place during a crucial time.  The university is looking to turn the corner after years of enrollment decline.  Larsen will be in place for the foreseeable future.
