Gas prices continue to fall in Montana, dropping another two cents over the past week. According to gasbuddy.com petroleum analyst Will Spear, gas is almost at its cheapest since the turn of the century.

"Gas prices are about $1.82 in Montana, that is the lowest we have seen for February since 2004," Spear said.

Montana prices have been following year over year since 2013, but saw the biggest drop last year when more than a dollar was shaved off the price. Here's a look at the past: $1.91/g in 2015, $2.99/g in 2014, $3.00/g in 2013, $3.05/g in 2012 and $2.99/g in 2011.

Montana’s average price is actually a little higher than average, but prices vary wildly throughout the state.

The cheapest gas in Montana can be found in Billings, where they have a refinery, at a Cosco station posting $1.66/g, conversely, the most expensive gas in the state can be found in Cook City where an Exxon station is posting $2.70/g," Spear said.

Spear said gas prices may tick up this week in Montana and other Rocky Mountain states because of refinery issues in the region… but that that is unlikely.
