Montana AG Encourages Concealed Carry Reciprocity Legislation

Montana Attorney General Tim Fox has joined 22 other states attorneys general urging Congress to pas legislation establishing nationwide reciprocity for concealed weapons  permits.

Spokesman Eric Sell said these bills would allow concealed carry permits to be recognized in all 50 states and U.S. Territories, regardless of where they were issued.

“Self defense is a fundamental component of the Second Amendment,” said Sell. “What these bills would do is allow individuals who have rightfully obtained a concealed carry permit in their state to be able to use that permit regardless of which state they are in.”

Sell said qualifying for a concealed carry permit is not easy in any state.

“We know that concealed carry permit holders are some  of the most responsible gun owners in our communities,” she said. “It just makes sense to have nationwide reciprocity for those who have jumped through the hoops to get a concealed weapons permit. It’s fundamental to their second Amendment rights and seems like common sense legislation.”

Sell said attorneys general are the top law enforcement officers in their respective states.

“They know better than anyone what the impact of these pieces of legislation could be, and they hope that Congress will heed their advice and pass these two bills.”

They are Senate Bill 446, The Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and House Resolution 38, the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act.
