Wednesday afternoon, July 7, officers responded to a bomb threat at the Walmart on Mullan Road. Shoppers reported being escorted out of the building and say they were told the store had an electrical fire. According to police, the store was actually in the midst of responding to a bomb threat.

“At about 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon Missoula police officers responded to a report of a bomb threat on the 3500 block of Mullan road,” said Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh. “Officers met with store management and after that discussion the management team there made the decision to evacuate the store.”

According to Welsh little is known about who threatened the store.

“The plaintiff said a male called on the phone they said he sounded as if may have some type of middle eastern accent and just advised that there was a bomb somewhere in the store," Welsh said. "At this point the officers who responded are completing documentation of the incident and seeing if there’s anything that we have that could tie this to a specific person.”

Walmart was open to customers just an hour after the incident. The call is still under investigation and may have just been a prank.
