Retired Major General Paul Vallely has a plan for securing the border. He shared his thoughts with The Daily Inter Lake in Kalispell.  We'll get to that, but first- here's a must-read column by The Inter Lake's editor Frank Miele:

President Trump can wager his future legacy on making liberals happy, which would be a fool’s bet, or he can ensure his legacy by doing what he was elected to do and “Build That Wall.”

A 20 mile “Control Zone” on the U.S and Mexican side of the border will be established. Any group or persons occupying this zone engaging in criminal or illegal activities against Mexico or the United States would be targeted, engaged and neutralized.

The first step is to organize three Joint Border Task Force Groups and position them in three operational bases, one in Texas, one in Arizona and another in Southern California. Locations for these bases have been identified but will be kept confidential for now. Each group will be organized based on joint task forces of Special Ops, Army, Air Force and Navy. Selected units and personnel will be relocated and moved to the designated bases. A Joint Operations Center will be established for U.S. and Mexican personnel.

Meanwhile, former Arizona Governor Jan Brewer (R-AZ) is going after Governor Steve Bullock (D-MT) and others who said they would refuse to send National Guard troops to the border, as AZ Central reports:

"They're just sitting on their hands and doing nothing," Brewer told Fox News host Neil Cavuto. "They're not taking the issue seriously. I think they ought to think about what their oath of office is in regard to protecting their citizens and they need to respect the federal authority. It's outrageous that they're doing what they're doing."
