The self-righteous indignation over Burger King avoiding taxes by moving to Canada is hypocritical. On Monday, BK announced it was buying the Canadian coffee/donut chain, Tim Horton’s. On Tuesday, BK was accused of being “economically unpatriotic” and cries of “boycott” were heard across the land. Even the Oracle of Omaha, Warren Buffett, took flack for putting shareholders over “patriotism.”

For anyone who believes BK is “economically unpatriotic,” please explain how you don’t take all the tax deductions legally afforded you. America was founded partially over a tax revolt. So let’s not get all, “Hold the pickles hold the lettuce, dodging taxes so upsets us!”  There’s a simple solution to getting corporations to stay in America: rewrite the tax code! Make America’s corporate tax rate competitive with the rest of the world instead of leaving it the highest rate of all industrialized nations.

I’m E. Curtis Johnson. Don’t hate the player – hate the game. Or in this case, hate who wrote the rules of the game: Congress.
