Governor Touts Montana Tax Ranking

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Gov. Steve Bullock is touting the latest ranking of state tax climates to show Montana is a good place for business.

The Tax Foundation released a ranking saying Montana was ranked as having the seventh-best tax climate in the study, up one spot from last year. The non-partisan tax research group highlighted Montana as a state with no sales tax.

Bullock, a Democrat, says that the tax ranking — along with a trained workforce and high quality of life — helps make Montana a great place to do business.

Republican state Sen. Fred Thomas says the GOP needs credit for cutting taxes in the 1990s and early 2000s. He points out that the legislation earlier this year further cutting the business equipment tax came from Republican lawmakers.
