Gas for Under $3 a Gallon Disappearing from Montana and U.S.

Gas prices are shooting up all across the U.S. and things in Montana are trending the same way.

"We finally crossed that three dollar a gallon threshold again," said gasbuddy.com Petroleum Analyst Patrick Dehaan. "The average price for a gallon of gasoline in Montana is up to $3.02, that's a rise of over two cents per gallon. Although it remains the cheapest state in the nation to buy gas in, Montana prices will likely go up another few cents by next Monday, [February 16]."

Dehaan says a spike in oil prices is to blame.

"You'll see the increase in larger cities first and then in moral rural areas later," Dehaan said. "We did see oil prices perk up to 100 dollars a barrel, today, that's a rise of over seven dollars a barrel in the last few weeks, so that's going to have a future impact and cause prices to go up."

DeHaan says this will likely be the last week that anyone is able to buy gas for less than three dollars a gallon for the foreseeable future. Prices in Montana are about 30 cents cheaper than the national average.
