Flags at Half Staff for John Glenn

Gov. Steve Bullock has ordered flags across Montana to be flown at half-staff today in honor the memory of an American icon, the late U.S. Sen. John Glenn, American astronaut and dedicated public servant on the day of his interment at Arlington National Cemetery.  President Donald J. Trump issued a similar order this week for all U.S. flags at government buildings and facilities.
Glenn was the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962 as part of the Mercury space program commanding the Friendship 7, and was the oldest person in space some 36 years later as a crewmember of the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1998, while a sitting Ohio U.S. Senator at age 77.  He received the Presidential medal of Freedom in 2012.  Glenn was also a Marine Corps aviator and engineer, who ran for president in 1984.
