Instead of blaming President Bush, Obama joined him. New York Times writer, James Risen wrote the book, “State of War.” The Bush administration subpoenaed Risen to reveal the source of classified information in the book. Risen refused. The Obama Justice Department renewed the subpoena and the U.S. Supreme Court ruled against Risen.

Despite Risen’s claim that Obama is, “…the greatest enemy to press freedom in a generation,” Risen may have to choose between jail and revealing his source. Obama signed a bill expanding protection for whistleblowers, but excludes classified information. That means journalists, following a constitutional directive, are punished but administration operatives spying on the Senate aren’t. President Bush and Obama have tried to fix intelligence leaks by breaking the 1st Amendment.

I’m E. Curtis, commentator, not a journalist. Threaten to send me to jail for what I write and I’ll collapse faster than presidential campaign promises.
