Final Montana US House Debate

The final debate between the candidates for Montana’s lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives included libertarian Rick Breckenridge.  Incumbent Republican Ryan Zinke and Democrat Denise Juneau rehashed some familiar campaign attacks about public lands and gun rights, while Breckenridge, a surveyor from rural Lake County, joined them on the stage at Great Falls College following the death of fellow Libertarian Mike Fellows.  About 300 people were in attendance for the debate, sponsored by the Great Falls Tribune and Montana Farmers Union.

 
They addressed the future of the Malmstrom Air Force base nuclear missile site, and Breckenridge railed against sending troops overseas without first seeking Congressional approval.  Candidates addressed a vote by the Missoula City Council to require criminal background checks on all private gun sales within city limits.  Juneau and Zinke focused on a Congressional proposal to ban firearm sales to people on the nation’s terror watch list.
