Associated Press reports that FBI Director James Comey is concerned that smart-phone encryption codes could hamper law enforcement investigations. “Comey said “…the move by tech companies to protect user communications in the name of privacy is certain to impede a wide range of criminal investigations.” However, he can’t cite one incident to prove his theory. Comey claims the FBI is committed to a front door approach of court orders and oversight of law enforcement. Let’s apply Comey’s logic to old technology. The FBI Director supports the idea of needing a court ordered search warrant for your house. Unfortunately, in the United States of James Comey, the lock on your door is a hindrance to law enforcement because cell phone encryption codes slows down investigations. My name is E. Curtis Johnson. The Fourth Amendment prohibits unreasonable searches and seizures.  Law enforcement protects us from criminals. The Constitution protects us from law enforcement and is why we should stop anyone who tries to weaken constitutional protections.
