A drenching rain on the Observation Point fire near Hamilton has brought firefighters back to camp near Hamilton.

Fire Information Officer Ann Rys-Sikora said the rain has been steady at the fire site.

"We received upwards of a half an inch of rain last night, and meteorologists say we can expect equal to more amounts here in the next 24 hours," Rys-Sikora said. "The crews are on standby for today with the anticipation that we will review things tomorrow based on the amount of precip we've received and how quickly it dies out."

Rys-Sikora said along with the rain, there was quite a bit of lightning.

"We got a ton of lightning last night," she said, "Since this team is responsible for initial attack in this area,we're going to hang on to these crews to see if anything comes of all these lightning strikes."

The Type One Incident Management Team is preparing to depart the fire site soon.

"We've got a 5 p.m. meeting today (Sunday) for what we call a closeout," she continued. "We'll put together a transition package for all the teams like logistics and finance and we pass all that information on to the Bitterroot National Fores team. They will do morning briefing on Monday and Tuesday, and we'll shadow to make sure everything is taken care of, and then we'll be hitting the road on Tuesday morning."

The lightning caused fire was considered 90 percent contained at 1,429 acres as of Sunday morning.
