The Gazette reports that the Billings City Council is scheduled to decide whether to spend more than a half million dollars on 17 new city vehicles and almost $1.3 million on self-contained breathing apparatuses for firefighters during today’s business meeting, which commences at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall on North 27th St.  Low bidders for the new vehicles were all out-of-town dealers — Billion Auto Group of Bozeman’s bid was approximately $235,000; Fremont Motors of Powell, Wyoming, bid about $82,000; and Bison Motors of Great Falls, bid was about $218,000.

The new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus gear replaces 12-year-old equipment, which reportedly has a 10-year life expectancy, according to a report written by Interim Fire Chief Bill Rash.  Funding comes through a supplemental request to the 2017-2018 budget.  For more on the story, go to; billingsgazette.com
