Blue Creek Volunteer Fire Department Outlines Week of Fire Prevention Activities

Members of the Blue Creek Volunteer Fire Department (BCVFD) and Pattycakes the Clown will travel to some area schools this week to talk about this year’s National Fire Prevention Week theme: "Hear the Beep Where You Sleep:  Every Bedroom Needs a Working Smoke Alarm."

Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 4-10.

Here are the scheduled Fire Safety Day presentations for the week featuring members of BCVFD and Pattycakes the Clown at the schools:

• Oct.  6: Elysian School, 6416 Elysian Road
• Oct. 8:  Blue Creek School, 3652 Blue Creek Road
• Oct. 9:  Pooh’s Too Child Care Center, 1407 Custer Ave

There will be an open house at the Blue Creek Fire Station on Oct. 11 at 2504 Blue Creek Road. During the event, the public can tour the station, see the apparatus, and eat breakfast.

Breakfast, which includes pancakes,eggs, bacon and coffee, will be served from 8 a.m. to noon for $5 per person.

BCVFD was recently awarded money through the competitive federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program to buy new personal protective equipment, including masks, air tanks, and a new compressor to fill the air tanks.  The grant, however, does not cover the full cost for this purchase. All proceeds from the pancake breakfast and from this past summer’s Fireworks Safety Carnival will help cover the balance.
