Q2 reports on the disturbing details of a 16-year-old Billings boy, charged with one count of deliberate homicide and assault in the death of a 20-year-old woman on September 23. Jacob Standing Elk was reportedly suicidal and intoxicated when he crashed into Haley Hutzenbiler’s car in Billings Heights, killing her and injuring another woman. Standing Elk was also hospitalized, but appeared in adult district court on Monday to face felony charges. Court documents indicate Standing Elk was driving drunk and texting friends saying he “wanted to die,” before hitting a near-suicidal speed of 124 miles an hour on Wicks Lane just seconds before striking Hutzenbiler’s car, which was stopped at a red light. Police found a handwritten note describing a sexual assault allegation against Standing Elk in his car. His next court appearance is scheduled for November 21.
