Day One Updates on The Toby Griego Trial
One of the most publicized cases of 2013 in Billings started in January and ended with the arrest in August of Toby Griego.Griego is on trial for 26 felony charges including 10 felony counts of sexual intercourse without consent. Four more charges of kidnapping, a felony assault with a weapon and other serious charges.
The jury process began on March 31st and ended about mid-morning on April 7th. The jury consists of eight men and seven women, three of those are alternates. The pool started at 300 last week. Opening statements began at 1:15 p.m.
Griego is being represented by Public Defender, David Duke. Deputy County Attorney Juli Pierce is representing Yellowstone County and Judge Russell Fagg will sit on the bench.
The prosecution called Detective Jim Woog as their first witness to testify as to how he extracted photos and videos that were deleted from Griego’s phone and SD card. There was a folder labeled, “Girls from Lake” with more photos found from a second a second victim.
A total of 25,000 photos were discovered on Griego’s phone. They were not all photos of the alleged victims or crimes.
