Four horses have taken up residence under Skypoint in downtown Billings and plan to hold court in that location until the end of August.

No one is complaining; in fact, the horses have become a popular attraction in the heart of downtown.

The horses, dubbed "Angel Horses of a Different Color," are part of a fundraising effort for Angel Horses that will be auctioned off at the nonprofit organization's annual barn dance on Sept. 5.

Angel Horses, which is located in Billings, helps those who can't help themselves at no cost to them, according to President Jonnie Jonckowski.

The mission of Angel Horses is  to provide positive physical and emotional stimulus to the Senior community, especially those afflicted with Alzheimer’s, at-risk youth, special needs children and individuals and families affected by cancer, through the use of rescued animals such as horses, donkeys, dogs and cats in a therapeutic environment.

Angel Horses prides itself on giving hugs and believes that every person and animal deserves to live with dignity, human touch and conversation, Jonckowski said in a news release.

"(They) should not be denied because they are financially, physically, emotionally, medically and spiritually depleted," she said.

The horses, "Protector" by Kevin Red Star, "Spirit of Rhiannon" by Lori Blaylok, "Tally Ho" by Carol Spielman and "Dream Horse" by Tyrel Johnson are leaving their mark in downtown Billings. Each of the artists donated their time and materials to help with the fundraising effort.

The money raised from auction will go toward care of the animals at Angel Horses, picnics for guests and transportation for horses and donkeys when traveling to fulfill client requests.

Angel Horses is currently looking for a new location on which to build an indoor arena. The organization currently is turning away 60 to 80 requests each month due to demand.

"We feel that this will be the perfect platform to get the word out on who and what Angel Horses is about," Jonckowkski said.
