In the words of Montana's Insurance Commissioner Monica Lindeen, "Love it or hate it, Obamacare is the law, and Montanans have a lot of questions. I didn't write the law, but as Montana's Insurance Commissioner, I want to make sure all Montanans have the information they need to make the best decisions they can for themselves, their families and their small businesses."

Yes, even Montana government officials have resigned themselves to calling the Affordable Care Act 'Obamacare', and they have created a special website to help Montanans better understand the law and it's implications. Insurance Commission spokesman Lucas Hamilton said on Thursday that Ms. Lindeen wanted the website to have fair and accurate information, minus any political spin.

"You'll find that when you go onto the website, Montana Health Answers dot com, that we use Obamacare throughout, because that's how people refer to it," Hamilton said  "On the website you'll learn about the new benefits and protections afforded by Obamacare, and you'll also learn about the individual mandate, which is not a popular part of the bill, but something that Montanans will want to be aware of."

Hamilton said there is information on the website that pertains to small and large businesses.

"Employers of small and large businesses will get a grasp of what the law actually says," Hamilton said. "Again, our goal is to make sure that Montanans have accurate information, not just political spin, so that's what we're shooting for."

Hamilton was careful to differentiate this website with the actual insurance exchange that people will use to purchase insurance.

"This will not the the marketplace, the exchange where you go to shop for insurance," Hamilton said. "That has to be something separate that the federal government will have to set up, and we don't know where that will be or what that will look like, yet. But, we do have some interactive features on our website. For example, we have this 'ask away' function that really encourages Montanans to ask us questions so that we can, one, answer their questions with a fair interpretation of the law, and make sure we have information on the website that Montanans are really looking for."

Hamilton said the insurance commission office has a toll-free hotline for any insurance question, not just Obamacare. It is 1-800-332-6148.
