The Gazette reports the Montana Department of Environmental Quality issued a statewide air-quality alert Sunday, as wildfires in British Columbia reportedly gave Billings its smoggiest day this year. Billings’ air quality briefly reached similar levels for a couple of one-hour periods in mid-August and January, according to DEQ data.
